For the purpose of searching for the restoration method yielding both strength and
esthetics for primary anterior teeth, various adhesion methods between stainless steel
and composite resin were evaluated. After stainless steel surface was pretreated with
alumina blasting, alumina blasting followed by acid-etching, and alumina blasting
followed by anodic oxidation respectively, silicoater system, Superbond C & B, and
Cesead opaque primer was applied as adhesive system, and Dentacolor resin was
built-up above them. Three primer was applied as adhesive system, and Dentacolor
resin was built-up above them. Three point bending test was performed under Universal
Testing Machine in order to measure the bond strengths, and bond-failed surfaces were
observed under scanning electron microscope.
The results were as follows :
1. Among three methods for pretreatment of metal surfaces, anodic oxidation group
with Ez-Oxisor revealed highest bond strengths. And Cesead opaque primer group
showed highest bond strengths among three kinds of adhesive system.
2. For bond strength, surface treatment seemed to have a greater influence than
adhesive system, and the features of cohesive failure in strongly bonded groups and
adhesive failure in loosely bonded groups were observed on bond-failed surfaces.
